Sustainability

Our commitment. Environment. People. Community.

Hypertec is a rapidly growing global provider of innovative information technology solutions, committed to being a role model for sustainable operating practices within the industry. We strive for a balance between environmental, social, and economic focus, a high degree of transparency and strong engagement in our corporate story.

We believe that addressing climate change is imperative for ensuring the sustainability of the planet. We take care to implement innovative and sustainable initiatives within our technologies, products, and we help our customers do the same. We also use these initiatives to support our employees and guarantee a safe and respectful workplace, as well as to regulate our social and environmental impact.

At Hypertec, we vow to improve our environmental footprint and help contribute to a more sustainable world.

Our goals are to improve on some significant environmental aspects

  • Emissions of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere (CO2 & NOx)
  • Waste rejection (used paper/cardboard)
  • Hazardous waste generation
  • Electricity consumption
  • Volume of wastewater discharges

Striving for Sustainable IT and Green Manufacturing

Hypertec’s environmental management system is compliant and certified under the international standards ISO 14001:2015 and its CIARA Tech-branded products are registered under TCO and EPEAT (Green Electronics Council), the world’s most comprehensive certifications for driving sustainable IT products development. It also uses and implements other international requirements such as ISO 31000:2018 – Risk management, and as best practices, the 300 Series Environmental (GRI 301: Materials GRI 302: Energy GRI 303: Water, GRI 305: Emissions) to collect, calculate and report relevant and reliable environmental information.

Hypertec’s headquarters and largest manufacturing facility is BOMA BEST® Gold certified, which is one of the highest Canadian standards for sustainable building infrastructure, taking into account energy and environmental performance. We reduce electrical heating consumption by using solar panels on the outer walls that capture energy to heat the outdoor air for reuse within the building.

Oceanworks

Saving the Planet with Oceanworks® and
Immersion Cooling Technology

Immersion cooling has a huge number of benefits, especially when it comes to sustainability and efficiency. It significantly reduces the amount of water used, levels of carbon emissions, and much more. Hypertec has partnered with Oceanworks® to use 50% of its plastic needed for manufacturing from ocean recuperation.

EPEAT

CIARA Manufactured Products are Eco-Friendly

EPEAT is the leading global ecolabel for the IT sector. The EPEAT program provides independent verification of manufacturers’ claims and the EPEAT online Registry lists sustainable products from a broader range of manufacturers than any comparable ecolabel. National governments, including the United States, and thousands of private and public institutional purchasers around the world use EPEAT as part of their sustainable procurement decisions.

Reduced Waste and Increased Safety

Hypertec recycles nearly all materials from its manufacturing process (e.g. foam), reuses supplier packaging (when possible), and replaces most foam inserts with pulp and paper products. It sends memory/CPU/HDD/SSD trays to the facility to recycle them into plastic pellets for new products.

Also, Hypertec IT components in production are managed by a fleet of Automated Guided Vehicle Systems (AGVs) that contribute to a higher level of safety, productivity, and sustainable growth. They resist contamination and operate emission- and noise-free.

Hydro-Quebec réseau écolectrique

Clean Renewable Energy and Power-Efficient Facilities

Thanks to our exceptional energy leadership, keeping in line with our significant responsibility to energy efficiency improvement, Hypertec is a member of the Hydro-Québec Energy Saver’s Circle.

We are pleased to say that as part of our energy efficiency initiative, we were able to significantly increase our total energy savings, including natural gas and electrical consumption, by 8% in 2020, and by an average of 3% between the years of 2018 to 2020.

To achieve these results, we implemented a series of energy efficiency measures, including:

  • Efficient lighting and occupancy sensors
  • CO2 sensors to control fresh air supply
  • Variable-speed drives (VSDs) to regulate ventilator fans
  • SRCs and Triac controllers to regulate the power in the electric coils and baseboard heaters
  • VSDs to regulate ice-water loop pump motors
  • Installation of a Solar air heater at 75% efficiency rate which generates annual natural gas savings of 37 126 m³

Hypertec Recycling Program

Hypertec’s comprehensive recycling program accepts rechargeable batteries and outdated IT hardware for recycling and disposal. We work with multiple recycling companies to ensure that all salvageable components and metals are reused and recycled in an effort to continue the advancement of green initiatives.

No Water BottlesSustainable Water Bottle Initiative

This year we implemented a company-wide initiative to reduce waste by providing each employee with their own reusable eco water bottle. These bottles are not only cost-efficient for the employees and good for the environment, but they are also better for their health, as the chemicals used in non-reusable bottles are damaging to your health.

Projet Alvéole

We’re Saving the Bees with Project Alvéole

Another initiative that has our employees buzzing is Project Alvéole. Hypertec is hosting two exponentially growing hives with over 67,500 bees. The project is bringing bees closer to people, and contrary to what we may believe, cities are truly the best place for bees: there are strict anti-pesticide laws, untapped floral diversity and largely unused rooftop space. All honey-based products derived from our hives are given back to our employees.
